Qype Does Manchester: The Vintage Fair at Whitworth Art Gallery

Vintage clothing outlets are hardly scarce in Manchester, but that never guarantees any luck trawling through the endless rails of 80s prom dresses and impossibly tiny shoes. Thankfully, when one of the numerous vintage fairs rolls into town you’re offered a better chance of finding that one off that you can’t do without – and at a much more reasonable price than some of the Northern Quarter’s vintage shops would slap on any old dress.

The Vintage Fair, from their beginnings in Sheffield, have rolled out their impressively large event across the UK and the Manchester events are fast becoming a favourite among 20th century clothing afficionados.

The many stalls will be finding their home in the always impressive Whitworth Gallery this month, where you’ll find everything from clothing to cupcakes. With a more attractive and, frankly, upmarket venue than some of their peers, The Vintage Fair folks have ensured a more relaxed atmosphere than the jumble sale some of us are used to.

One thing that sets this event apart from similar dos is the inclusion of a vintage hair salon, a much missed feature in the Manchester vintage scene. Check out the event’s Facebook page for details on how to book your hair dos as well as pricing.

The whole shebang kicks off at 12pm on Saturday 30th October, finishing up at 5pm. Entry on the door costs a pretty reasonable £1, meaning you won’t be too put out even if the ideal item isn’t on the rails this time around.
