This week we’ve got a stupendous prize for one lucky winner and their friend: a night out for 2 at La Rêve in London’s sumptuous Cafe de Paris.
La Rêve combines burlesque, vaudeville, circus and cabaret variety performers and no two shows are the same. I recently paid a visit to the fabulous La Rêve and can testify to its fabulousness.
On my visit, Dusty Limits was our hilariously raunchy and acid-tongued compère and he did more than an adequate job of warming up the lively Friday audience. My stomach hurt from laughing as he smoothly improvised and propositioned several members of the audience (I escaped his attentions much to my disappointment).
Burlesque performers included my personal favourite Kitty Bang Bang, who succeeded in getting “Japanese Boy” stuck in my head for days and wowed with her flawless en pointe routine. Such admirable toe strength. We were also treated to some impressive hula-hooping courtesy of Pippa the Ripper. The Lords of Strut had a shaky start. As two crazily-dressed Irish guys, I began to fear for another Jedward. Fortunately, they redeemed themselves with flawless acrobatics and amusing banter while Miraculous Val’s aerial acrobatic show made me wonder what was possible with bed sheets and a ceiling hook…
Ultimately, the show was stolen by the hilarious Frisky and Mannish. Their pop-fuelled routine will win over even the most hardcore dance fanatics as the audience became inconsolable with laughter to their version of Kelly Clarkson’s “What doesn’t kill you” and an uncanny Florence and the Machine impersonation.
An amazing night’s entertainment was had and this week’s winner is in for a spectacular treat.
